When people think about CUNY schools,the first thing that comes to mind are about affordable education. However, one of the most underrated and overlooked gems are the libraries in all campuses. At first glance it might seem like just a quiet place to study, but if you spend more time in there, the library reveals itself as a treasure trove of knowledge and inspiration.
Entering the library is like going into a different world. Books of all genres, new and old, adorn the shelves, each one offering a doorway to novel concepts and viewpoints. I remember finding a set of uncommon 1920s photos of New York City in my architecture library at City College of New York. I was able to travel back in time and see how the City and its residents had changed over time thanks to these pictures.
The flexibility of CUNY’s libraries is one of my favorite things about them. The library has resources for everyone, whether you’re looking for the newest tech news or ideas for your upcoming artwork. My knowledge has grown and I’ve developed new interests thanks to the intriguing art books and magazines I’ve come across. With the abundance of resources at their disposal, the librarians are always willing to help and offer guidance.
Because of how busy college can be, it might be simple to forget to stop, take a deep breath, and acknowledge our surroundings. The library offers a quiet space where you can lose yourself in a good book or investigate novel concepts. It’s more than simply a storehouse of textbooks; it’s a place to foster curiosity and allow imaginations to run wild.
Beyond solitary study, the library is essential to fostering a sense of community among college students. It organizes talks, workshops, and other activities that unite students and promote idea sharing. I’ve got the chance to meet kids from different backgrounds and gain insight from their distinct viewpoints by going to these events.
Even with all of the amazing opportunities and resources our libraries provide, a lot of students don’t realize what they can do. It’s a lost opportunity to advance their academic career and unearth treasures that are just waiting to be found. As Albert Einstein once said, “The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.” Mysteries lurk in our libraries, just waiting to be witnessed by people.
We need to increase student visibility and accessibility to our libraries in order to solve this problem. We can encourage more students to visit the library and assist them in discovering its treasures by planning outreach initiatives, workshops, and entertaining events. We must establish a friendly atmosphere that inspires curiosity and learning in everyone.
Let’s celebrate the hidden gems of our libraries and make the most of what CUNY offers. Together, we can build a community of curiosity and creativity, ensuring that every student feels inspired and connected in their own unique way. By addressing the gaps in awareness, we can open doors to new passions and enrich our academic journeys in ways we never thought possible.
