During my time as a student at Borough of Manhattan Community College, I have noticed an issue that maybe not many are aware of; the lack of awareness that the students have about the many resources offered by CUNY, BMCC, and even the city of New York. Especially those who liked the culture, and experiences around the city. Seeing so many New York residents that have never seen a Broadway show, or that have never been able to experience what the city that they have been living in for so long has to offer is something that has always bothered me.
This thought followed me through my summer internship where I got to work for a social organization that focuses on curating fun, affordable events and activities for women in the city, so I created a guide where I gathered all the theatre, museums, and experiences that are free, and affordable for youth individuals.
This guide has been shared with friends and the community, and I plan to have it properly printed for distribution at BMCC as part of one of my projects as a Senator for the Student Government Association. Today, I am sharing “The Guide for NYC Youth” with my fellow Peer Leaders. I hope you enjoy it and get to experience the magic of the theatre and of the many experiences that this city that we call home has to offer.
