Resilience of the Earth

By Oluwatimilehin (Timmy) Awopegba

In Nigeria’s sun, where my roots first found life,

I watched the Earth bend, but never break,

The rivers surged, the trees stood tall,

An echo of strength in each passing quake.

Now in New York, as a student of tech,

I merge my worlds, with each careful step.

At CUNY, I learned to build with code,

To craft solutions for waters far and near,

Hudson’s depths, like Lagos’ tides,

They speak of change, of futures unclear.

With sensors, circuits, and a hopeful hand,

I study the Earth, I understand.

ECO-VIVENCIAS in Puerto Rico called,

Through trails and oceans, I found new light,

With Para la Naturaleza guiding our way,

We reforested hills, protecting the right.

Kayaks cut through rivers deep,

As mangroves whispered secrets to keep.

Reforestation, a labor of hope,

Our hands in soil, hearts in tune,

With every seed, the future grows,

A promise sung beneath the moon.

Nature taught me, in quiet breath,

That healing rises after death.

As I move forward, I carry this,

A love for Earth, a passion bright,

For tech and nature, hand in hand,

Will guide us all towards the light.

For in resilience, the Earth survives,

And in its strength, we too shall thrive.
