Blog: What I wish I knew before I interviewed for

There are several factors in the video which are important for me to consider while preparing myself for the interview and graduate programs. I felt there was something to learn from all the people who shared their thoughts and tips to prepare themselves for the interview.

One of the main points of Calvin who mentioned how one should research their research program, I think this is something important to think about. Besides that, to know why you want to pursue a graduate program and what the program you are trying to get in would help you personally to grow. I think this is something one should consider while preparing for any interview: what are the strengths of the program that you are trying to enroll in or how it would help you to grow. So, the first and the second points of Cavin which I really agree with.

The next person, Cherish, mentioned how not to limit yourself by only trying to apply for one program. She tried to apply to every single program and I think this stresses the fact about how one should not give up. Because sometimes the options that we don’t want help us to be successful and to learn which makes our path easier later on. I really liked the words of Giovanni about the importance of experience and how often we tend to underestimate the importance of experience. We often associate experiences with jobs or internships but it can also be your experience with yourself and identity. Lastly, networking, practicing, and not giving up all these are the highlights that  I would like to consider while preparing myself for the academic and professional future. I think all these skills make me think how there are so many things to work on and that’s motivating me to get myself involved with more programs and internships.

Yes! we should never limit ourselves to just one program or one opportunity! I am so glad this was a main takeaway for you! When you see an opportunity for a program to apply for, go for it! Have more than one option over just one. Plus what helps me is having templates for cover letters and resumes so you save more time!
