While the happy, bright moments of life are easy to cherish, it’s frequently the darkest events that moulding us into the people we are at our core. Life is a journey full of ups and downs. We could feel like we’re breaking during these times when everything feels heavy and unsure. However, what if we were able to view them as opportunities? Possibilities for personal development, for gaining courage, and eventually for turning suffering into meaning.
Numerous of us have been there, including me. When doubt sets in and the future appears dismal, those are the days when it feels like everything is hanging on your shoulders. We have to keep reminding ourselves that darkness does not last forever during these times. As a matter of fact, shadows can produce some of the most exquisite transformations.
Hi Dejane! This is a great start to your post. I am curious how this metaphor of light through darkness extends to your experience at CUNY. Do you think CUNY is going through a dark period now? What is the light we should aspire to?
Like many other institutions, CUNY has had difficulties in the past, especially in the last few years. These difficulties can include a lack of funding, the fallout from the pandemic, or structural injustices that impact both professors and students. Nonetheless, there is room for development and evolution among these difficulties. The obstacles we face may represent the “darkness” we feel, but our shared resiliency and dedication to justice, accessibility, and advancement represent the “light” we hope to achieve. Carrying this light, as students, are our aspirations for significant community improvements in addition to scholastic achievement. The social justice movement and CUNY’s vast diversity offer a solid basis for hope, and it will be our unwavering commitment to creativity, inclusivity, and reform that will lead us through these trying times and into a better future for all.
